EAST COAST RELIGIOUS FIGURE TO HELM CIMARRON ALLIANCE

December 17, 2009 Scott J. Hamilton of New York has accepted the position of executive director with the Cimarron Alliance Foundation in Oklahoma City.

Although CAF is not saying much about their new director and he's unfamilar to the OKC LGBT Community, we've been able to obtain some  general information about  Hamilton. Though a native Oklahoman, Hamilton has spent much of his adult life away from the state. He is a 1978 graduate of Capitol Hill High School in OKC and obtained a degree in public relations and journalism in 1983 from a state college.

In a letter on the CAF website Hamilton announced, "Shortly after the first of the year we’ll be sharing exciting news with you regarding Cimarron’s new website, new Board members, and a brand new home of our own. I’m anxious to begin working together with other like-minded organizations throughout the state and to empower younger members of our community. I envision building a strong government relations committee that will work proactively to educate lawmakers. I am eager to connect with supportive religious leaders and their congregations so that we might work toward broader “moral equality” within Oklahoma’s religious circles. It’s also vital that we galvanize support within our community and begin the critical work of heightening awareness and understanding of social injustice issues among the public at large. At the core of all of this work is our imperative need to actively address fundamental issues of fear and ignorance as these pose a threat to equality for everyone in the LGBT community and, more broadly, women and all people of color."

He has been employed with AIChE, which is an organization serving chemical engineering professionals. There he served as director for corporate communications. He is a former deputy communications director for the Catholic Medical Mission Board in NYC, which is described as "...rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus, Catholic Medical Mission Board works collaboratively to provide quality healthcare programs and services, without discrimination, to people in need around the world."  His work with the CMMB included a 2008 trip to Kenya and Zambia for medical programs involving AIDS.

The former pastor of two United Church of Christ congregations, including the Grantwood UCC in Cliffside Park, New Jersey, will reside in OKC with his long-time partner Wayne.

Although having cut back in services in recent times, CAF co-chairs Margaret Cox and Clayton Hickox are pledging to take the non-profit foundation to new heights with Hamilton as the organization's very first full-time paid manager.
