Oklahoma politics continues to be infiltrated by the paranoid anti-government John Birch Society. On Saturday, February 21, 2029, Sally Bell was elected chairperson of the Tulsa County Republican Party with the help of a growing John Birch faction led by Rep. Mike Ritze, who is presently trying to force the building of a Ten Commandments religious monument at the Oklahoma State Capitol. Bell is the wife of Robert K. Bell, who was identified in a February 17, 2009, special report by Gossip Boy called Clouds Over America: Christian Identity, the Patriot Movement, and Sally Kern as being one of three Oklahomans serving on the national council of the JBS.

A top priority of the JBS is to embed members into state and local governments in order to manipulate laws that promote their conspiracy theories, federal government hatred, and fundamentalist white Christian Identity views.

Sally Bell lost a November 2008 election for Tulsa County Commissioner; a campaign some claim was being run to avenge the closure of a family business due to local government interference. Since 1951, the Bell Family operated Bell’s Amusement Park at the Tulsa Fairgrounds. In 2007, county authorities voted to not renew the attraction’s lease due to what they claimed were deteriorating conditions and it was forced to close. Sally Bell was the vice-president and chief financial officer of the park and during her campaign called for an investigation into the motives involved in closing the business. Bell blamed Tulsa County District 2 Commissioner Randi Miller for the eviction and challenged the seat, winning the primary, but later losing in the general election to Karen Keith.

During that period a Tulsa World editorial called Bell spiteful and said, “Sally Bell, the Republican, is a dangerous and angry person who has made a name for herself with one issue.”

The equipment used for the Bell’s Amusement Park now lies in storage – joining the faulty Wildcat roller coaster that killed a 14-year-old and injured six others in 1997. Before the fatal incident, Robert K. Bell successfully sued in federal court to keep the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission from overseeing amusement park operations.

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SLPC) Intelligence Report, who track hate groups in America, has noted a 48 percent rise in hate groups since 2000. They have begun identifying various cells of the John Birch Society and listing them as official hate groups operating in America. Current state elected officials heavily involved in the JBS, include: Rep. Sally Kern (R-OKC), Rep. Mike Ritze (R-Broken Arrow), Rep. John Wright (R-OKC), Rep. Charles Key (R-OKC), Rep. Pat Ownby (R-Ardmore), Rep Mike Reynolds (R-OKC), Rep. Gus Blackwell (R-Goodwell), Rep. Randy Terrill (R-Moore), and State Sen. Randy Brogdon (R-Owasso).

Birchers tend to see sinister activities in most things. While some may’ve claimed that an immigration policy by the Bush Administration did harm to the country, JBS members saw a secret cabal where various governments were trying to create a North American Union. Where some see a Pan-American highway that flows through the three countries involve open trade, the Birchers believe that it is being built for the Chinese Army to invade America – courtesy of a secret global communist conquest plan originating at the Vatican and involving Jews, commies, devil worshippers, the Rockefeller Family, and the Illuminati, who they believe rule the world. The group has even claimed that the fluoride put into public water systems was a plot to weaken America’s youth and make them incapable of fighting off a Soviet invasion.

The Birchers, also, believe that the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which banned racial discrimination in employment and housing, was a communist plot and to this day they seek to overturn that law. 

Bell and her husband Robert have been with the JBS since 1964. The couple was involved in the Barry Goldwater campaign through the society seeking to prevent Lyndon Johnson from remaining president and putting an end to the Civil Rights Act. The Bells later led a successful challenge in Oklahoma against the Equal Rights Amendment in the early 1980s. The ERA sought to guarantee equal rights under the law to women. During the early years of Robert and Sally Bell’s membership, the Birchers distributed segregationist literature and waged attacks on interracial marriage. The JBS now wage similar campaigns in relation to gays and lesbians.    

In 1995 Robert was appointed to the 22-member council that overseas national operations for the group. The Bells are deeply involved in various capacities with the Robert Welch Jr. University Summer Camps. Welch, a retired candy maker, founded the JBS in 1958.

In a Los Angeles Times article describing the camps it says, “Here are some of the things that happen at John Birch summer youth camp: People in Revolutionary War garb fire muskets into the evening sky; bumper stickers declare, "I love animals, they're delicious"; and men in weird hats burst into cabins in the dead of night. And campers learn about secret world plots involving devil worshipers, cocaine-snorting Caribbean rulers, the United Nations and President Clinton.”

That article goes on to say, “They also must deal with the Night Patrol, a roving band of camp counselors wearing swords and strange headgear who storm into cabins at unpredictable hours. The idea behind the raids is to instill resentment against excessive police power.”

Campers are taught that mass transit is evil, because it is the government’s method to control the movement of citizens by taking away private car ownership, the United Nations is a cabal of communists and Satanists, and that Marxists are sending millions of Mexicans across the border - each with the mission to kill ten Americans.
