NATIONAL FREEDOM TO MARRY DAY SET IN OKC
February 8, 2009
From Equality Project:
On National Freedom to Marry Day, Thursday, February 12, 2009, at local marriage counters in cities all over the country, same-sex couples will request marriage licenses at their local County Clerk’s Offices to raise awareness of the harms and impact that the inability to marry causes on their families. This national event is hosted yearly by Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA) and this year they have asked Join the Impact for our help to make this their largest Marriage Counter Action yet!
The Equality Project will be hosting a rally at the Oklahoma County Court Clerk’s office, and we would like to invite everyone to join us.
Currently, we have the event broken down into two parts: beginning at 4:00 P.M., we will begin sending in couples to request marriage licenses. The “marriage” group will consist of same-sex couples who will be denied right away, but we will also be sending in pairs of opposite-sex people who were randomly selected, possibly from a hat, to be (pretend) joined in marriage. Naturally, because the opposite-sex pairs are male/female, they will be accepted without a second thought! Personally, I’m hoping to collect some good footage of this and work it into a youtube.com video that we can pass around.
Beginning at 5:00 P.M. we will hold a rally that will focus, once again, on equal marriage rights.
The event will take place at:
320 Robert S. Kerr
Thursday February 12, 2009 from 4:00P.M. until 6:00P.M.
Currently, we are in need of the following:
Speakers
Couples who are willing to tell their story to any present media
Camcorders and photographers
blow horn
Please, invite your friends! All are welcome!
